3. The 7th grade class wants to raise at least $2,400 to put on an end of year dance. So far they've raised $850 and plan to sell t- shirts to raise the rest. If $14.50 is earned off the sale of each shirt, write and solve an inequality to determine how many shirts must be sold in order to meet the goal?

Respuesta :

Number of t-shirts: x

Multiply the number of t-shirt for the cost of each one of it to find the earns of sold that number of t-shirts: 14.50x

Then, the earns of sold x number of t-shirts and the $850 they've raised needs to sum at least 2400 (at least means greather than or equal to 2400)

Then, you get the next inequality:

[tex]850+14.50x\ge2400[/tex]

To solve the inequality:

1. Substract 850 in both sides of the inequality:

[tex]\begin{gathered} 850-850+14.50x\ge2400-850 \\ 14.50x\ge1550 \end{gathered}[/tex]

2. Divide both sides of the inequality into 14.50:

[tex]\begin{gathered} \frac{14.50}{14.50}x\ge\frac{1550}{14.50} \\ \\ x\ge106.89 \end{gathered}[/tex]Thenm, to meet the goal, they need to sold a number of t-shirts greather than or equal to 107 (as you can not sold 0.89 t-shirts)
