Read the narrative and determine the point of view:

"The teen walked along the beach with his mom, though neither one spoke to the other. The son kept glancing at his mother, sometimes with a furrowed brow, other times with wide eyes. He would start to open his mouth, but then would hastily close it again. His mother continued her steady walking, considering him out of the corner of her eye. Sometimes she smiled a thin smile, but generally she kept her mouth closed."

a First person
b Second person
c Third-person limited
d Third-person objective
e Third-person omniscient

Respuesta :

Well it's obviously not first person because do I really need to explain? It's not third person limited either because we would get to know the feelings and thoughts of one characters but we don't know the feelings or thoughts of any. It's not third person omniscient since we don't know any background information or stuff that the characters don't know yet.

The answer is D, third person objective because we don't know any of the characters' thoughts, opinions, or feelings. It's all unbiased & neutral.

The point of view that has been employed in the given narrative would be characterized as:

D). Third-person objective

  • "Third-person objective" is described as the narrative point of view in which the narrator is observing the events from a distance and gives space to the characters to act without revealing their thoughts and intentions.
  • Such a narrator is impersonal, objective, and neutral that helps the readers get an unbiased representation of the story.
  • In the given excerpt, the author employs third-person objective point-of-view as reflected by the use of third-person pronouns 'he,' 'his,' 'she,' etc. in an observational mode.

Thus, option d is the correct answer.
