Z number of an atom represents the atomic number, which is also the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom. Usually the Z number, the number of the protons and electrons are all the same, but since an atom can lose or gain electrons, in this case we use Z number = number of protons, therefore the Z number for this atom is 9
