A visible activity of the American Indian Movement (AIM) has been its efforts to gain clemency for Leonard Peltier, one of its leaders.
Native Americans who had recently relocated into communities were the focus of the American Indian Movement (AIM), which was founded in Minnesota in 1968 by grassroots organizing committee. It grew into a global movement with the repair and reconstruction of tribal sovereignty and treaty obligations being one of its primary goals. AIM is largely succeeded with providing Native persons hope again after a protracted program of "altercation politics."
Native Americans in the Twin Cities were experiencing a time of great hardship as AIM grew in popularity. The earliest efforts of AIM ( American Indian Movement) were intended to boost the Native population in Minneapolis. They created the AIM Patrol to rescue victims of police brutality. Additionally, AIM assisted in the creation of the Indian Health Board, which provided Born and bred healthcare, as well as the Legal Protections Center, which gave the impoverished the opportunity for free legal assistance.
