A child has learned new information, and it successfully adjusts its schemes to take the information into account. Psychologists call this process accommodation.

Assimilation and accommodation are two mechanisms that the individual employs in an effort to adapt, according to Piaget. As a person adapts to their surroundings in a more complicated way throughout time, both of these mechanisms are utilized.

When we adapt or reorganize what we already know to better accommodate new information, this process is known as accommodation. This happens when environmental issues arise and when our senses conflict with our knowledge and beliefs. Changes in cognitive architecture are made to accommodate new information received from the environment.
