Many thought that hate crimes against Asians had decreased between 2020 and 2021, but they actually increased by 339%. One in six AsiAn-American adults experienced a hate incident in 2021, up from one in eight in 2020. After the shooting at a massage center in Atlanta in early 2021, "Stop Asian Hate" and "Stop Asian and Pacific Islanders Hate" became the two most important hashtags on social networks representing rallies and campaigns to stop violent hate crimes against Asians.
