What differentiates the pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium and transitional epithelium from other types of epithelia is this:

  • Pseudostratified columnar has cilia and transitional is not classified by its shape

What is the difference between the forms of epithelia?

The difference between the pseudostratified, and columnar epithelia have cilia which have a shape that resembles strands but the basis for classifying the transitional epithelium is not its shape.

The transitional epithelium has many cells and all of these have the ability to expand and contract. The transitional epithelium can also be found in the urinary tract while the pseudostratified can be found in the respiratory part of the body.
