Discussion: Finding Characters 20 points
Do one of two things:

Look through magazines to find a person who looks interesting to you (preferably people you don't know -- avoid celebrity pictures) OR
Go to a place where you can see people (take your notebook or some paper with you) and observe the people you see – pick one of them to turn into a character.
Once you have picked a person who looks interesting, begin making up things about him or her — turn them into fictional characters. Write a descriptive paragraph about your character. Add details that answer these questions:

What is his or her name?
What kind of personality does he or she have?
What kinds of families does he or she have?
What are some of his or her secrets?
What does he or she love/hate/fear?
What does he or she want most in life?
What are his or her weaknesses?
What are his or her strengths?
Anything else you can think of?
When you are happy with your paragraph, post it into the Discussion: Finding Characters link. When you respond to others' posts, ask questions — let writers know what other things you would want to know about these characters. Writers, read the responses and consider the questions, especially if you choose to use this character in your story.
