Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome is the Vitamin B1 deficiency disease that results from severe alcohol abuse.
Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome is a disorder related to memory. It is more common in people with alcohol addiction or suffering from malnutrition. The symptoms of the disorder are: mental confusion, vision problems, coma, hypothermia, low blood pressure, ataxia, etc.
Vitamin B1 is also called thiamin. It is a water soluble vitamin. It cannot be synthesized by the body and hence can be obtained from foods like beans, lentils, seeds, yogurt, pork, etc. Deficiency of thiamin can cause disease like beriberi, nerve diseases, coma, etc.
