Author and date are the information needed in the APA style in-text citation for a paraphrase.
For paraphrasing the original/real source of information is required. It is must to acknowledge/notice. To paraphrase one needs to go through the original source, take notes of the key points, analyze it and summarize/sum it up in one's own words and writing.
