The Renaissance demonstrates the value of looking to the past for solutions to current problems and inspiration. By looking to the past for advice today, we can uncover not just potential sources of solutions, but also strategies for overcoming problems that earlier cultures have had to deal with.

  • The Renaissance era, which began in Italy at the end of the 14th century, extended throughout European society and had a tremendous impact on the advancement of science, culture, the economy, and other social arenas. The establishment of early bourgeois relations created significant socioeconomic changes that were the foundation for the turning point in spiritual life. In Venice, Florence, and Genoa, where trade was actively expanded, the early stages of capital accumulation occurred, and republican political regimes predominated, the Renaissance movement got its start. Francesco Petrarch, Niccol Machiavelli, and Giovanni Boccaccio were notable humanists of the era who preached important moral principles, worked to ensure that everyone was treated equally, and laid out the ways to moral advancement.
  • Several concepts from Renaissance humanism still hold true now. Even if many of them have experienced some change, they persist and grow in contemporary human-centered ethical and worldview frameworks. The backdrop of many current dogmas in art, politics, and other fields has evolved in the way that is customary for modern civilization as a result of the growth of the concepts of that time.
  • The underlying principles of many modern social norms—cultural, political, economic, and others—were established during the Renaissance. The reevaluation of beliefs about the role of the church in culture resulted in the development of more liberated art forms.
