The amount of thymine in the DNA will be 18%.

DNA Bases

DNAs generally consist of 2 types of bases:

  1. Purine bases
  2. Pyrimidine bases

The purine bases are of two types:

  1. Adenine
  2. Guanine

The pyrimidine bases are also of two types:

  1. Thymine
  2. Cytosine

According to Chargaff, the ratio of purine to pyrimidine bases is constant for all DNAs. Adenine always pairs with Thymine while Guanine always pairs with cytosine.

Thus, for every DNA molecule:

Adenine = Thymine

Guanine = Cytosine.

In this case, guanine is 32%. This means that cytosine will also be 32%.

32 + 32 = 64%

100 - 64 = 36%

36/2 = 18%

This means that thymine and adenine will be 18% each.
