Francisco Pizarro was a Spanish conqueror who commanded the conquest of the Incan civilization in South America in 1533.
When Pizarro´s expedition reached Incan territories, he realized there were disagreements among the Inca rulers. He made political use of the situation, supporting Inca Atahualpa, who ruled in Quito. Pizarro betrayed him, captured him, and asked for a room full of gold to free him. After receiving the gold, Inca Atahualpa was executed, and thus Quito fell into Pizarro's hands in 1532.
A year later, Pizarro managed to reach the Inca capital city, Cuzco and seized it. In this way, the Incan civilization came to an end, and he became governor of Peru in the name of the Spanish crown.
