J. J. Thomson's cathode-ray tube experiments disproved the part of John Dalton's atomic theory that assumed atoms were indivisible.

Prior the discovery of subatomic particles, John Dalton proposed a theory which is known as Dalton’s atomic theory.

In this theory an idea was put forward which recommended that atoms were indivisible particles. It suggested that atoms could not be broken down into further smaller particles.

J.J. Thomson's cathode-ray tube experiments demonstrated that all atoms possessed tiny negatively charged subatomic particles, which were named as electrons.

The discovery of the electron disproved the part of Dalton's atomic theory which suggested that atoms were indivisible.
