King George III had the opportunity to retain control over the American colonies and all he needed to do was to make a few concessions. He could have allowed the colonies to have representation in Parliament, and he could have reduced the tax burden on them.
Instead, he felt insulted that they would even ask for representation and so tried to shut the Colonists down by force. He committed crimes against their rights as Englishmen which led to them rebelling even though a significant number were loyal to him. If George III had simply made some concessions, there might not be a United States of America today.
