Pencil, toothpick, shoes etc are some of the examples for non standard units for measuring lengths.

Hand span is  a non standard unit to measure the length of objects.

Measurement of some items in my home using non standard units.

Table : table measures 10 pencil lengths

Bed : bed measures 15 handspans

Sofa : sofa measures 8 shoe length

Shelf : shelf measures 30 pencil length

Door : door measures 18 handspans

Window : window measures 6 shoe length
