The ducts of the renal papillae release urine into cup-shaped receptacles called minor calyx.

Kidney is divided into two parts namely renal cortex and renal medulla. Renal cortex is associated with filtration of blood to form urine. Renal medulla concentrates the urine. There are renal pyramids present in renal medulla which further contain renal papillae. These structures empty urine into the minor calyx.

Further these minor calyx converge or join together to from major calyx. The collected urine from here flows into renal pelvis and further reaches its destination, ureter.

Nephron is the functional unit of kidney, responsible for formation of urine. Specifically, urine is filtered by glomerulus and concentrated by tubules. The latter step is important for maintenance of homeostasis in the body.
