There are basically two kinds of leadership behaviors which are relationship-oriented leadership and task-oriented leadership. Under relationship-oriented leadership, the leader has to maintain a good relationship with the organization's members. Under task-oriented leadership, the work should be properly scheduled among the members.
The main feature of relationship-oriented behavior is consideration towards his team members. It is very important for him to create and maintain good relationships with all members. The main feature of task-oriented leadership behavior is that the leader should take the initiative himself to see that the resources are being put to the most efficient use to achieve the goals of the organization.
This very important study was given by Ohio State. First, it was understood that the leaders fall into any one of these categories. Later studies showed that the leader who is considered the quality leader is the one who is the combination of the two.
