A factorial study that measures depression before and after treatment for a treatment group and a control group is an example of a mixed design.

The mixed design factorial study involves two or more variables which are independent, of which at least one is a between-group factor and at least one is a within-subjects factor. Overall if we look at simple cases, there will be one within-subjects factor as well as one between-groups factor.

To take an example of the same, we can say that a researcher might choose to treat cell phone use as a within-subjects factor while putting to test the same participants, both while using a cell phone and while not using it.
