A genomic library is a collection of the total genomic DNA from a single organism.
It can be used as the starting point for isolating a gene of interest since it already consists of a clone of each and every gene present within the cells of any organism by means of vectors, restriction enzymes, gel electrophoresis and DNA probes.
The main advantage that the lambda phages have over a plasmid vector during DNA cloning is the high transformation efficiency of lambda phages. The lambda phages are approximately 1,000 times more efficient as compared to the plasmid vector.
Plasmids are circular, double-stranded DNA molecules which are found in bacteria as well as in the nuclei of few eukaryotic cells. They can replicate autonomously.
