Muscles are named according to their size, location, function, origin or insertion point. The location of muscles are named on the bases of their size and location such as sternocleidomastoid which is named after its origin ( on ster-num and clavicle) and insertion ( mastoid process).
Naming of the muscles after its function that allows a person to move speak and chew , they can control heartbeat , breathing and digestion.Skeletal muscles are attached to bones and helps in its movement , and perform involuntary function and cardiac contractions.
There are more than 650 muscles in human body such as smooth muscle, they perform variety of vital function.
