Five constitutions were adopted by New York and eight constitutional conferences were conducted there (1801, 1821, 1846, 1867, 1894, 1915, 1938, and 1967). The 1894 Constitution, rewritten in 1938 and altered more than 200 times, is still in effect today. According to this document, the state legislature may at any moment propose holding a constitutional convention.
