According to a study that compared the brains of adults at various ages, from the forties through the seventies - growth of dendrites decreased.
Dendrites are fine finger like cells which present at the end of the neuron. It has short brunching fibers and receive inputs from a neuron. Almost 5-7 dendrites are present in a neuron. The main growth of dendrites happens before 40, after 40 the growth rate decreases and become more minimal by ageing.
Axons are part of dendrite so by decreasing the number of dendrites the number of axons are also decreased but the volume increases. Neurons accumulate damaged mitochondria, impaired and aggregated proteins and create oxidative stress.
So from the above discussion we can say that the growth of dendrites decreases in the adults at various ages, from the forties through the seventies.
