Shah Jahan was one of the most successful Mughal emperors and the fifth ruler of the Mughal Empire. He successfully ruled the empire for his 30 years. Shah Jahan was a capable administrator and commander. During his reign the Mughal Empire prospered and the best Mughal architecture was constructed . He is known for having built many beautiful monuments in the countryside of North India.
In 1614, Shah Jahan was given an opportunity to display his military might. He led his army of over 200,000 to defeat the forces of the Rajput king Maharana Amar Singh II who was forced to surrender the Rajput state to the Mughals. In 1617 he was commissioned to conquer the Deccan Plateau in order to expand his empire. In 1627, after Jahangir's death, with the entire army under his control, Shah Jahan was crowned emperor. In 1632, he captured the fortress of Daulatabad and imprisoned Hussein Shah.
