The two types of representation are delegate and trustee.

People entrust their chosen ones with the responsibility of making important decisions on their behalf. As such, representatives act as trustees of the people in all local and national affairs. He/she has a fair degree of autonomy. The elected trustee has a duty to advise and make decisions in the interest of the people, while putting the national interest first.

The delegate model gives the trustee all the rights and powers to make decisions on behalf of the people, but the delegation sees the representative as the spokesperson of the people. He has no right or power to make decisions of his own will. In this model of representation, people elect delegates to represent their constituencies in parliament. Unlike trustee, delegate speak or act only in accordance with the direction or interests of the party they represent. He/she has no autonomy like a trustee.
