What is social (observational) learning?
The learning through seeing other people's activities is known as observational learning. The desired behaviour is observed, remembered, and imitated.
As youngsters mimic the actions of adults, they engage in observational learning, sometimes referred to as shaping and modelling.
Some key point of social learning are-
- Even if we occasionally deliberately watch professionals to pick up new knowledge, observational learning isn't always done with that in mind. particularly in young kids.
- By observing adults, a child may pick up bad language or cigarette smoking habits. Whether or not the goal behaviour is desirable, they are always learning through observation.
- Humans are social creatures, thus they are drawn to learning through observation.
- Children imitate the actions of their family members by watching them.
- Even newborns begin mimicking the facial expressions and mouth movements of the people around them at barely three weeks old.
