Metaphor is the literary device which is most prominent in the Sandburg's poem, "Fog", which begins, "the fog comes/ on little cat feet".
In this poem "fog" Carl Sandburg integrated the metaphor as comparing a cat to a fog. This poem "Fog" demonstrates the author's appreciation for nature. In the following poem. The poet described the fog that hangs over the city as though it is a cat like creature passing through. This also adds a particular character to the otherwise mundane natural event.
The metaphor in the poem "Fog" also depicted the fog as a cat in a multitude of ways including cat's attitude, sound, motion, position and intention.
Hence this poem is an extended metaphor, as only cats moves in a way which is almost imperceptibility and in complete silence.
