Convulsion means 'uncontrollable muscle contraction'. It can happen in a particular part of the body or the whole body.

Several different conditions can cause convulsions such as epileptic seizure, febrile seizure, paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia, tonic-clonic seizure, etc.

Tonic-clonic seizure is also called 'Grand mal seizure', which is caused due to abnormal electrical activity throughout the brain.

This seizure is initiated by the 'Aura phase'. The intense seizure activity comprises three phases :

Tonic phase - stiffening (10-20 seconds),

Clonic phase - rhythmical (30-90 seconds)

Postictal phase - relaxing(few seconds).
