Regarding imperialism, in 1914, due to the declaration of war with the Ottoman Empire of which Egypt was a part, Britain declared a Protectorate over Egypt and then disposed the Khedive by replacing him with a family member who was made the Sultan of Egypt by the British. Shortly afterwards, the Sultan declared himself the king of Egypt.

During the 1922 revolution, there was a coup by the reformist military officers whereby they overthrew the monarchy. This finally led to the independence of Egypt and the country became the independent kingdom of Egypt.

In conclusion, the legacies of colonialism that was left behind in Egypt was the loss of freedom and control over their country. On the positive side, Egypt developed into a regional commercial and trading destination.
