The ego component of personality developed through contact with the external world that enables us to deal with life's practical demands. Freud proposed that the mind is divided into three parts: the id, the ego, and the superego, and that the interactions and conflicts between the parts create personality.

The id, according to Freud theory, is the component of personality that underpins our most primitive impulses. The Five Factor Model divides personality into five parts: agreeability, conscientiousness, extraversion, openness, and stress tolerance. Personality tests based on this model assess an individual's position on  spectrum of each of the five traits.
