The Electoral College favors the major states because electoral votes are based on the number of houses of representatives and senators in each state.

Therefore, the candidates try to win the states with the largest population because they have the most electoral  votes to win. Political parties nominate candidates and help their members get elected to government positions, each trying to win a majority in government. Tends to be more conservative, interested in helping to keep government small, taxes low, and  less control over corporations.
