Asexual reproduction and genetic diversity

Sexual reproduction involves genetic recombination and as such, produces genetically more variable offspring.

This is unlike asexual reproduction. There is no form of genetic recombination whatsoever. All the offspring have the same genomes as the parents.  

When a population is genetically diverse, such a population will be able to adapt to changes in their environment more quickly.

A population that has little to no genetic diversity can get wiped out by a little change to the environment.

Thus, asexual reproduction can be advantageous in that reproduction is quicker and consumes less energy. However, it makes the population to be susceptible to elimination by environmental changes.
