In the Choson dynasty Korean folk rituals, performing arts, and artists fall into an outcast existence.
The Choson Dynasty, also known as the Yi Dynasty, was Korea's last and longest-lasting dynasty (1392–1910). The kingdom was founded by General Lee Seong-Hye, who founded the capital of Hanyang (now Seoul) and was named Joseon after the eponymous state that ruled the Korean peninsula in ancient times. This regime is also often called the Li dynasty because of its ruling family.
General Yi forged close ties with neighboring China's Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), viewing Korea as a vassal state, and Chinese cultural influence was powerful during this period. As a model, Neo-Confucianism was adopted as the state's and society's ideology.
