The Galveston hurricane still remains as the deadliest natural disaster in the U.S. It occurred in the island of Galveston, Texas, which at the time was a thriving commercial city, on September 8, 1900.
It was a category four hurricane with winds surpassing 135 miles per hour; within hours it caused catastrophic damage to properties, humans, and animals; it destroyed more than 3,000 buildings and around 6,000 to 12,000 people were killed.
