Who is Josef Svoboda?
- In 1948, Josef Svoboda was appointed the principal designer for the Czech National Theatre, a position he held for more than 30 years. His multimedia installations Laterna Magika and Polyekran, created for Expo 58 in Brussels with director Alfréd Radok and his brother Emil, helped him gain international recognition.
- The use of both live actors and projected images was first seen in these productions. Svoboda is also in charge of incorporating contemporary materials and technologies into his designs, such as plastics, hydraulics, and lasers.
- One of Svoboda's most well-known special effects, a three-dimensional pillar of light, was produced in 1967. An aerosol combination that showed low-voltage lighting was used to make this.
