Myelination
These changes are reflected in increased myelination in some areas of the brain.
The frontal lobe neurons do not fully myelinate until the mid- to late-teens or even into early adulthood (the frontal lobe is the last part of the brain to mature). More of the frontal lobes become involved in brain function as myelination advances, which gradually lengthens attention spans and speeds up information processing, both of which get better as people age.
