Sex cells, or gametes, are haploid (half the number of the parent's chromosomes) cells produced when a single cell divides twice into four in a process called meiosis.
Meiosis happens in two stages, meiosis I, when the first division happens, and meiosis II, when the second division takes place, in the image I added you can see this process in detail.
