The federal Constitution has the responsibility to define the structure of the federal government and limits its powers and especially to list the bill of rights of all citizens.
The states constitutions must resemble the federal constitution in many ways - legislative structure, respect the bill of rights etc - but usually, they are easier to amend and are longer and more detailed than the federal constitution.
