Redlining is the practice of denying individuals access to certain goods or services by public or private institutions, either through general price increases or targeted price increases.

This act was used to prevent minorities, such as African Americans, from obtaining loans to purchase homes in specific American communities and from obtaining loans to renovate their homes.

These various groups have been impacted by housing discrimination because it has isolated them politically and culturally. They struggled to form political alliances as a result, and it also led to resentment. Due to a lack of housing and work opportunities, violent crime rates and concentrated poverty increased.
