What is happening at the molecular level to proteins?

When a chemical relaxer and heat are applied to curly hair, the protein present inside your hair gets denatured. Due to this denaturation of protein in the hair, the hair is soft and flexible which can be converted into any direction and different styles can be done. If a chemical perm or relaxer is applied to straight hairs, it also denatures the protein and make the hair curly.

Thus,  Denaturation occurs.
