Gilgamesh demonstrates the characteristics of an epic hero. He does this by being courageous as a leader, encouraging others, and then having the strength of a persistent warrior. First, he encourages his friend Enkidu to overcome his forest fear (which shows his encouragement toward him), then he shows persistent strength by defeating Humbaba, a very fierce and aggressive monster.
