Vicki Arroyo: Let’s prepare for our new climate
Briefly summarize what Arroyo explains her talk will be about.
What are the three examples Arroyo gives for how we can prepare for the massive impact climate change will have on all of us?
According to Arroyo, how can we better prepare and adapt to violent storms and floods?
According to Arroyo, the second thing we need to prepare for is heat and droughts. What are some ways in which people are better preparing to handle these effects of climate change?
Although Arroyo does not mention the term “watershed,” it was discussed in the unit as being closely related to and impacted by drought and floods. Please discuss how the watershed relates to drought and heat. How might Arroyo have integrated the term watershed into her talk?
The third example that Arroyo talks about is rising sea levels. What are some of the ways rising sea levels can be highly dangerous and damaging? What are some of the solutions being implemented to prepare for the future?
At the end of her talk Arroyo says, “Adaptation’s too important to be left to the experts.” Explain what she means by this, if you feel this is a valid point and why.

Respuesta :

A watershed is an area which drains to a common body of water, one of its main functions is to temporarily store and transport water from the land surface to the water body and ultimately (for most watersheds) onward to the ocean. So she can include watershed as drought preventive method in her talk.

What is climate change?

Climate change is defined as a change in global or regional climate patterns, in certain a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.

Rising sea level can be reduce by following solutions:

Beaches and dunes can act as a natural wall and reduce the impact of storm surge. The bigger the beach or larger the dune, the more water can be stopped from reaching homes and roads.

Coastal communities can restore natural infrastructure, that can act as a buffer against storms and coastal flooding. Natural structures such as barrier islands, and coral reefs, mangroves, and salt marshes can work alone.
