Jim Crow laws were enacted after the Civil War and were enforced in order to encourage racial segregation; blacks were denied the right to vote, jobs, education, access to public spaces, and overall, a normal lifestyle. Public spaces, and pretty much everywhere, were dived into “separate but equal spaces”, which is not necessarily true as the colored spaces were often run down and dirty. Jim Crow laws expanded the social divisions in the South by literally dividing the people and placing whites in better social, economic, and political positions.
hope this helps!
Jim crow laws created more political and social division after the civil war ended. Just when citizens and mostly Blacks believed they would be granted freedom, they were struck with the grandfather clauses, and jim crow laws. This made it so that they still had no rights. It created more hatred and anger towards Blacks through the KKK and more racist tendencies.
