The poor lifestyle choices involve the consumption of alcohol and tobacco, smoking, physical inactivity, and poor diet. Avoiding these choices might help in reducing the chance of heart disease.

Further Explanation:

The cardiovascular diseases are caused not only due to poor lifestyle choices but also because of risk factors such as age, high blood pressure, high sugar levels, raised cholesterol levels, air pollution, or due to genetic history in the family of diseased. The circulatory system or the cardiovascular system is responsible for the supply of blood to the body parts. It includes veins, arteries, heart, and capillaries. The diseases which involve the blood vessels of the heart are called cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The various CVDs are heart failure, congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease (CAD), stroke, hypertensive heart disease, and periphery artery disease. Different heart disease occurs as a result of different underlying mechanisms. For example, stroke and CAD are caused due to smoking, increased blood pressure, poor diet, and increased alcohol consumption whereas, congenital heart disease is present since birth and results in the defective heart structure.

The behavioral choices that help in reducing the chances of heart disease are:

  • Physical activity: A person with no physical activity tends to develop heart problems. Performing physical activities on a daily basis might reduce the chances of obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes, which will otherwise lead to heart disease.
  • Avoiding alcohol consumption: Drinking alcohol regularly might increase blood pressure. It might also elevate the triglyceride levels in the body. The triglycerides get deposited in the blood vessels, which ultimately cause heart problems.
  • Avoiding diet rich in cholesterol, trans, or saturated fats might help in lowering the blood pressure and conditions such as atherosclerosis can be avoided.
  • The use of tobacco also heightens the chances of heart attack and other heart diseases as nicotine, a compound present in tobacco, raises blood pressure. The cigarette smoke contains carbon monoxide, which decreases the amount of oxygen carried by the blood. Therefore, the use of tobacco must be eliminated to keep a healthy heart.
