The Magna Carta was first given by James I of England, in the year 1215. The document is written as a letter is a Peace Treaty. This is one of the documents that serve for reference when other nations became more democratic. It contains directions on how the power of the monarch should be foreseen. One of the limitations to the kings is in the taxes, which were to be agreed by a forum consisting of 25 barons.

The conflicting parts did not commit to the purposes of it. Therefore it wasn't until 1217 when this letter becomes labeled as the "Carta Magna" in Latin, which means  Letter for the Liberties.
