What was the Gettysburg Address?

The Gettysburg Address is the most famous speech delivered by former United States President Abraham Lincoln. This speech took place on the day of the Dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery on November 19, 1863 in the city of Gettysburg (Pennsylvania) four and a half months after the Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War.

This speech has become one of the most popular in history because it mentions with great passion the principles of equality of men enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. Additionally, Lincoln redefined the Civil War as a new birth of freedom for the United States and its citizens.
