and

so
[tex] \frac{9x^8}{12x^5}=( \frac{9}{12} )( \frac{x^8}{x^5} )=( \frac{3}{4} )( x^{8-5} )= ( \frac{3}{4} )( x^{3} )= \frac{3x^3}{4} [/tex]
