honestly it could be both, it depends on the tradition.For example if the tradition is harmful to you or others i'd say that's bold individualism. however in my personal opinion if the tradition has something to do with your heritage like per say a ceremony for coming of age or a burial tradition then I think something like that is a humiliating mistake
