The alien begins as a plant, undergoes the typical plant life cycle, and then undergoes a metamorphosis and emerges from that to begin the animal life cycle. Make sure to explain how the animal life cycle produces offspring that starts back at the beginning of the plant cycle. Write from the point of view of your alien. Describe what happens to you (the alien) as you go through the stages of development both as a plant and as an animal. So you could say, "As the alien sprouts out of the ground, it begins to grow and fight for the proper nutrients and water it needs. It creates a cacoon around its self, trapping all the air it needs to survive with for the next 6 months (or what ever time period you want to do). Then, as it releases into an animal (of your choice), and fights for food, water, and shelter. As these animals mate, they produce seeds that can be planted in the ground naturally."
