Answer: Any number smaller than 6

3k - 6 < 12

(Add six to both sides)

= 3k < 18

(Divide by 3 on both sides)

= k < 6

Also a side note that may be helpful in other similar problems: If you are dividing or multiplying by a negative number you have to flip the inequality sign.
